Beautiful new paintings are appearing on electricity boxes all over Ballincollig

More of this, please.
Two more surprise murals have appeared on electricity boxes in Ballincollig.
Artist Kevin O’Brien is completing a series of ten biodiversity-themed paintings for Ballincollig Tidy Towns.
The Cork-based artist has been painting street art and murals since 2016 and is also behind the pieces inspired by Sir Alan Cobham’s Flying Circus, which came to Ballincollig in the 1930s, painted at Healy’s Post Office on the town’s Main Street.
“There are four painted so far around the village and there will be ten in total,” Kevin told Yay Cork, referring to the latest series.
“The overall theme is biodiversity and we’re trying to show some of the plants that make Ballincollig a pollinator-friendly area, something which is very important to the Ballincollig Tidy Town group.”
Having achieved an MA in History at UCC, Kevin is inspired by a love of Cork and its local stories, as well as a passion for environmentally friendly causes.

“These ones feature designs inspired by foxgloves and forget-me-nots.” the artist tweeted.
After co-founding the street art and guerrilla gardening group Mad About Cork in 2016, Kevin has led many community projects and events with volunteers, business organisations, community groups and other city stakeholders.
First 2 of a biodiversity themed series of boxes being painted for Ballincollig Tidy Towns completed this morning. More to follow in the next couple of weeks! 👀
