Most of us have a baby picture or two taken in West Cork.
But one couple went to extra lengths to make sure their newborn son’s first holiday in Barleycove was recorded in epic fashion.
A video shared by TV producer Faye Williamson and her husband, drone pilot Finbarr Williamson has been shared hundreds of times on social media after the pair captured their first trip to West Cork with their seven-week-old baby boy Rua.
The tongue-in-cheek video features Finbarr standing on a rocky outcrop, lifting the tiny baby above his head as ‘The Circle of Life’ from The Lion King plays in the background.
As well as being sweet, the scene is accidentally gorgeous; as the camera sweeps around the family, it takes in views of Chimney Cove and Barley Cove beaches in the glow of the setting sun as it sinks behind the mountains beyond.

“To be honest, it was just a bit of fun spur of the moment thing after taking our baby Rua to the beach for the first time!” Faye told Yay Cork.
“The sunset and setting was too perfect to pass on. I’m flying the drone in the video after Finbarr plugged in the settings!”
Both West Cork natives (Faye is from Schull and Finbarr is from Ballydehob) the couple live in Wicklow and welcomed baby Rua during the pandemic, which made the first trip home extra special.
“We had our baby in lockdown so this was the first opportunity we got to come down to West Cork to introduce Rua to our family and favourite places. Rua is seven weeks old and is already a big fan of Barleycove.”
Twitter users have been heaping praise on the short clip: ‘That should be the official commercial for Cork.’ tweeted @StoryIncAsia.
‘That gave me happy chills and tears this morning. Thank you.’ added @a_neasa.
