A tractor shed had a makeover; now it’s a stunning loft apartment

Once upon a time, this tractor shed in Ballydehob was a muddy, hay-strewn shelter for some hard working farm machinery.
These days however, this barn’s working life is in the past; now it’s a spacious loft apartment where Airbnb guests can kick back while enjoying the West Cork countryside.
The charm of the original building has been maintained by owners Jules and Richard.
However, the transformation did involve the addition of an impressive floor to ceiling 12-metre long window that stretches across the entire gable end, revealing views of Roaringwater Bay through the treetops.
There are two bedrooms (en suite and complete with showers and whirlpool baths), a mezzanine with two single mattresses and a double sofa bed so it sleeps a gang of seven quite comfortably.
The vast dining table is perfect for family meals and board games so bring the Scrabble board.
It’s an eco-friendly place to stay too; a wind turbine generates much of the electricity, while the water is heated by solar panels. The owners grow organic vegetables on the property.
Guests are greeted by the family’s old border collie, Monty and their jack russell terrier Pola.
You can rent the Tractor Shed Loft Apartment on Airbnb at around €100 per night.
