A second Black Lives Matter protest is set to take place in Cork today

It begins at 1pm.
The second Cork march organised as part of the Black Lives Matter movement will meet on the Grand Parade in the city today.
The rally is the latest in a number of demonstrations to take place throughout Ireland in response to the death of black man George Floyd in Minneapolis in the US after a white policeman kneeled on his neck during an altercation on the street.
Widely circulated video showed the distressed Mr Floyd, described as ‘a gentle giant’ by friends, telling police ‘I can’t breathe’.

With travel restrictions now lifted, the turnout is expected to be larger than the first protest, which saw hundreds of people gather in Cork city centre to highlight racism and issues facing people living in Direct Provision in Ireland.
Another event saw people gather around The Lough for a demonstration on Saturday.
