A new nature trail and picnic area just opened in this stunning Cork forest

This’ll make a lovely Christmas stroll.
Coillte has officially opened a new recreation facility at its popular forest in Moanbaun, just outside Watergrasshill.
The new recreation facility includes an upgraded interactive nature trail, new picnic furniture and a new car park for visitors to enjoy. Parking is free too.
Moanbaun sits on a high exposed plateau, offering stunning views of the Nagle, Galtys and Ballyhoura Hills in the far distance.
Already popular with walkers and joggers, the upgraded nature trail, which is suitable for all ages, is another attraction that will be fun for families. The self-guided, educational route consists of 13 different information points. Each point has an interpretative panel with nuggets of interesting information on the local flora and fauna of the woodland.

“This lovely forest is just one of Coillte’s 250 recreational forests nationwide,” said Daithi de Forge, Head of Recreation, at Coillte.
“The new looped walk here at Moanbaun takes the visitor through the forest with clearly marked signs showing off the natural beauty of the woodland.”
Details of the new walk at Moanbaun, including directions to the forest, can be found on Coillte’s website at coillte.ie.
