A new Cork taxi tour will whizz you around key historical spots from the War of Independence

Fascinated by Cork’s tumultuous history?
A brand new taxi tour is taking curious passengers on an eye-opening journey around Cork sites where extraordinary events took place in Cork City.
The Cork City War of Independence Tour is a two-hour taxi ride offering participants a chance to visit key locations where history was made during this tumultuous time in the city’s past.
With a comfy seat and a window to take in the sights, no matter what the weather is like, passengers will learn about the people who planned, plotted, fought, and suffered during this incredible period.
The stories are brought to life by Sean Houlihan the taxi driver and tour guide, who will take in locations such as Empress Place on Summerhill North, the headquarters of the Black & Tans, to City Hall, which was destroyed by a fire set by members of the British Crown Forces in a spate of arson attacks, leaving hundreds of businesses in ruins and thousands of citizens unemployed.

“We all thoroughly enjoyed the tour.” Mary posted on Facebook.
“Sean, our tour guide, was very informative and passionate in regaling the events that took place in our beloved Cork during the War of Independence. We all felt like we had been transported back 100 years during the tour. My nephews are travelling back to Seattle with great knowledge of Cork’s past.”
