The place looks phenomenal.
A new road safety ad hits TV screens this week and the star of the show is the Cork seaside town of Clonakilty.
Shot in the West Cork hotspot during the summer, the RSA Ireland ad, set to the tune of Ewan MacColl’s Dirty Old Town, is part of a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the benefits of and build community support for 30kmh zones in urban areas.
These include benefits in terms of road safety, the environment and the economy. The idea is that it allows for safer, greener, more livable towns and communities.
A number of Clonakilty businesses get a little cameo in the ad, although the names of some have been changed to fit the theme.

Among those featured are coffee shop Revel, Georoidín’s deli (changed to The Old Canal in the ad), the Arís café on Asna Square and Humble Pie on College Road, changed to Annettes Cakes.
The Flower Basket and The Loft Gallery are also featured in the video of the town, deservedly the winner in the small-town section of the Tidy Towns competition last year.
