Looking for a fun way to blow off some steam?
Studies show that singing can boost the immune system and lowers cortisol levels, helping to ease the effects of stress. The best bit? You don’t even need to be good at it for it to work.
Now a local choir is inviting new members to join them, meet new people and make a weekly singing session part of your routine.
“It is the ultimate opiate, promoting emotional, physical, and cognitive wellbeing, while increasing other activities and creating more neural pathways between the left and right-hand side of your brain.” St John’s Gospel Choir manager Catherine Murray told Yay Cork.
“The same results happen when singing with others. Gospel choirs are the acme of community singing and a rhythmic embodied experience.”
St John’s Gospel Choir is restarting over the next two weeks on Tuesday March 1st and 8th at 6.15pm in the Cork College of FET, Douglas Street Campus.
Anybody who is curious is invited to come along for a taster session on these nights (no experience necessary). If you enjoy it, the subscription fee is €20 per month for members.
