Love to sing along? Sacred Harp singing could be your cool new hobby

It’s not your typical choral group.
Cork’s Sacred Harp Singers have been practicing the US folk tradition on Leeside since 2010 and now they’re inviting new members to join their monthly meet-up.
Also referred to as ‘shape-note’ singing, Sacred Harp is a kind of loud and joyous harmonised cacophony of voices. Have a listen here:
To join in, all you need to bring is your very own Sacred Harp (don’t panic; it’s just a reference to the human voice) to a relaxed weekly session in the Quaker Meeting House on Summerhill South.
“The shape-note system uses squares, triangles, circles and diamonds corresponding to notes in the scale, making the music easy to sing for beginners and experienced alike.” the group explains.
“We will have a short singing workshop, and then a short period of singing from the songbook to give beginners a taste of the music. All welcome regardless of musical skill or experience.”
