Three friends have opened a new sandwich shop serving absolutely massive focaccias

Cork people go wild for massive sandwiches.
And if your ideal lunch involves a sandwich that’s almost impossible to fit in your mouth, you’re going to want to know about this.
A new sandwich venture called The Three Musketeers has landed at The Black Market, bringing towering focaccia sandwiches packed with premium fillings … and the story behind it is just as wholesome as the food itself.
The business was started by three close friends who had spent years working in Cork’s food scene before deciding it was finally time to build something together.

The trio, who are originally from Venezuela, have been friends for more than a decade and jokingly compare themselves to the famous Three Musketeers; one is the natural leader, another is the big ideas person, while the third prefers to stay behind the scenes, adding a little mystery to the mix.
José Requena, who many Cork foodies will know from La Cantina at Marina Market, and Lorenzo de Almeida, the man behind Birdy Bites at The Black Market, are two of the faces behind the new venture.
Rather than creating just another deli, they wanted to build something centred around friendship, good food and big flavours.
Their focaccia sandwiches are stacked sky-high with generous fillings, making them the kind of lunch that requires two hands – and probably a few extra napkins.
Each sandwich has its own name and personality inspired by the world of The Three Musketeers, with the menu drawing heavily on Italian flavours for now. Here’s a peek at The Black Throne, for instance: premium ham, melted provolone, wild mushrooms, crispy onions, and signature truffle sauce, layered on artisan focaccia with garlic-parsley butter.

But that’s only the beginning.
The friends say future specials will also showcase influences from their Venezuelan roots, Portuguese family traditions and wider European cuisine, creating flavour combinations that reflect their own story.
Considering Cork’s ongoing obsession with oversized sandwiches, we’d be surprised if this didn’t do very well indeed.
