A clever fundraiser is asking Cork people to dig deep and donate their change to an important charity this summer, with a novel fundraiser at The Lough this June.
Well known publican Ernest Cantillon and musician Pat Fitz are joining forces to organise the clever fundraiser on behalf of Cork City Hospitals’ Children’s Club, a charity that makes dreams come true for seriously ill children.

“They bring joy and unforgettable experiences to young patients, including magical trips to places like Euro Disney. To support their incredible work, we are aiming to complete a full lap of the Lough — with coins!” they told us.
“Every donation will help us build a ring of hope around the lake and bring smiles to even more children’s faces.”

This June they’re inviting everyone to place coins side by side around the edge of The Lough, aiming to raise as much as possible for a great cause.
As a guide, one metre made up of mixed Euro coins is worth about €20.
The exact date and times will be announced soon but kind supporters have already started to donate to the cause over here.
“We would be hugely grateful for any donations in advance to help us get a head start!” they added. Follow Lap the Lough on social media for updates on the event.
“While the day itself promises to be a lot of fun when we hope people bring their coins to the Lough and help us try and complete a full circuit, we have 1km to cover, which is a lot of coins!” said Cantillon.
“For that reason we are hoping to get a head start by asking people and businesses to help by sponsoring “metres” of coins in advance . Each metre costs around €20 in mixed denomination Euro coins. Whether you sponsor 1 metre or 10, every contribution will make a real difference.”
