Shandon is in line for a makeover and locals are invited to have their say

It’s a part of the city that’s steeped in history.
Now Cork City Council is embarking on an ambitious plan to revitalise the historic Shandon area. The council, in partnership with AtkinsRéalis and John McLaughlin Architects, is seeking input from local residents and businesses to shape the future of this iconic neighbourhood before a plan is completed by the end of the year.
As part of the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme, an Integrated Urban Strategy (IUS) will be developed for Shandon. This initiative aims to preserve the area’s rich heritage while also addressing the needs of its residents and businesses.
To kickstart the process, a public consultation event titled ‘Let’s Talk SHANDON!’ will take place this Saturday, August 17th, from 10am to 5pm at the Firkin Crane. The council is inviting the community to share their ideas, concerns, and aspirations for Shandon.

The IUS will inform future development and investment in the area, and the council is keen to ensure that the local community has a strong voice in this process.
“This is an opportunity for you to share your views and help us shape the future of Shandon by telling us what you love about Shandon, what the area needs more of and what it needs less of, your likes and dislikes about living, working, visiting and growing up in the area and the opportunities you believe there are to enhance this wonderful neighbourhood,” said Lynn Stocks of AtkinsRéalis
Residents and businesses are encouraged to attend the consultation event or share their feedback online. If you would like a paper copy of the feedback form, email shandonIUS@corkcity.ie.
Paper copies can be mailed back or dropped off at The Firkin Crane, The Rock Steps Community Centre, Myo Café, Café Jane or James Nolan’s Butchers throughout August and September.
