A sauna and rainfall shower is now open in a historic mill in Ballinhassig

Here’s an amazing way to absorb a little history.
A beautiful new eight-person sauna and outdoor rainfall shower is now open in Ballinhassig, surrounded by the ruins of a 17th-century mill.
The Sauna Mill is adjacent to Kirby’s Korner on a site that once occupied the largest grain mill in the south of Ireland.
For just €10, you can kick back in the heat of the sauna and relax while enjoying the scenery, then cool off in the outdoor rainfall shower outside. The whole set-up is surrounded by lush greenery.
“The mill fell into disrepair in the 1980s and was bought by my grandfather, a local business owner in Ballinhassig.” owner Aidan Coleman told Yay Cork.

“He was planning to restore it but unfortunately, he passed away before he could complete it. The goal of the Sauna Mill is to first create a sustainable business and then generate revenue to restore and save what is left of the old mill.”
The plan is to make the historic building a centerpiece for the town for years to come and provide a boost to local businesses and the community.
“The old mill features heavily in the story of the Ballinhassig massacre, which took place on June 29th, 1845 when the RIC opened fire on a group of innocent civilians,” Aidan explains.
“As part of the project, a monument to the people injured and killed will be added at the foot of the building.”
The Sauna Mill is now open in Ballinhassig on Wednesdays (7pm-9:30pm) and Saturdays (9am-12pm) and booking details are available on the Instagram page @SaunaMill.
