Families in this Cork neighbourhood are flying kites in solidarity with kids in Gaza

What a beautiful idea.
Kites will dot the skyline in Glounthaune on Sunday, January 14th as people gather to send a message of peace and hope to the children of Gaza.
Taking place on International Kite Day, this beautiful and uplifting tribute will happen at 2pm in Craig’s Field next to the Glounthaune Playground.
A global grassroots movement responding to the Palestinian humanitarian crisis, Kites in Solidarity is taking place across the world on the day. It is a child-friendly way for communities to come together and show their solidarity with the children of Gaza.

Catherine Russell, the driving force behind the Glounthaune event, told Yay Cork that in 2011, Palestinian children in Gaza broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the most kites flown simultaneously.
She outlined that kite flying serves as a powerful message of solidarity, “lifting the voices of innocent lives lost and urging world leaders, including the Irish government, to act with humanity”.
Anyone can get involved by coming on the day, or they can set up a local kite flight, organise local initiatives and spread the word on social media by tagging @kitesinsolidarity, using the hashtag #kitesinsolidarity, or emailing Kites In Solidarity here.
