There’s one last chance to visit Bishop Lucey Park before it closes for a major facelift

Pop in for one more look before Wednesday.
Because as of December 6th, Bishop Lucey Park will close to the public to facilitate works ahead of the main redevelopment of the busy green space, which is commencing in early 2024.
One of the most transformative and ambitious public realm programmes ever undertaken in the city, the regeneration of the Grand Parade Quarter will see the popular city centre park renewed based on an award-winning architectural design by Hall Mc Knight Architects.

The plan is to open up the park to the wider city centre and this week will see hoarding erected, park furniture, sculptures, plaques and signage removed and placed in storage and advance investigative works carried out.
According to Cork City Council, the redeveloped park will include improved access to the historic city wall, a new events pavilion and plaza, better access and seating, and a new tower to mark the eastern entrance.
The redevelopment works are expected to be completed in the early part of 2025.

“The Grand Parade Quarter project will see a complete renewal of the area around the southern gateway to the medieval city, connecting the Grand Parade and a series of historic lanes, streets, and Bishop Lucey Park with the south channel of the River Lee and the city centre business core.” said a City Council spokesperson.
