Head to the ‘Hob for a one-of-a-kind upcycling Fashion Show in a pub

By Christina Collins August 26, 2023August 26, 2023

Time for a wardrobe switch-up.

When it comes to investing in statement pieces, adding a handmade item from an Irish designer is, quite frankly, a no-brainer. But it can be hard to even know who each designer is or where to find them.

This weekend, Levis’ in Ballydehob is bringing together a whole host of makers from Ireland’s sustainable fashion, textile, and craft industries to showcase collections that use upcycled or local materials.

Among the names taking part this Sunday, August 27th will be Skibbereen’s very own Alice Halliday, who is known for her delicate event wear and headpieces; contemporary knitwear designer Conor O’Brien; sustainable clothing and accessories brand Recut; slow fashion clothing maker Tamsin Blackbourn; natural fibre artist Modh; circular fashion knitter Liadain Aiken Knitwear and many more.

The Fibre of our Being in Levis’ will consist of a full day of talks, workshops, and displays, followed by an Alternative Fashion Show and dancing. There will be a talk about Fibreshed Ireland Designers from 1pm-2pm on Sunday, followed by a talk about Irish Wool and Weaving from 2pm.

From 1pm-5pm designers will be displaying some of their creations in the garden and the evening will round up with an alternative Fashion Show from 6.30pm.

“It is a fashion show by a community both within Ballydehob and also within the textile and craft industry in Ireland which has a job trying to be part of our fashion and textile scene when the large shops and imports are still very strong. Let’s see what all these crafts people can create by upcycling and creating with fabric made from natural and often from local materials,” said a spokesperson for Kilcoe Studios.

The show itself will be hosted by Cork comedian Maeve Higgins, and audience members will get to chat with designers afterwards to learn more about their work.

Booking is advised for this event. You can do so by emailing events@kilcoestudios.com with ‘Fibreshed’ in the subject field or text 087 0667871 with the same. The fashion show takes place from 6.30pm-8pm.
