When it comes to farmer’s markets, Cork has a plentiful supply of gorgeous options, each with its own unique vibe and a slew of excellent local artisan bakers, fishmongers, coffee folk, and crafters.

Down west is where you’re most likely to spot a celebrity nipping from stall to stall, basket laden with sourdough, flowers, and chutneys (a baseball cap and sunnies and most of them go completely unnoticed around these parts).

Now Bandon-born TV ledge Graham Norton has revealed his pick of the bunch; Bantry’s Friday Market.

Norton surprised Cork’s 96FM listeners when he dropped into the radio station studios at St Patrick’s Place in Cork city to wish Lorraine Murphy and Ross Browne the very best of luck with their new breakfast show – ‘Lorraine & Ross in the Morning on Cork’s 96FM.’

Chatting to the pair, Graham said he plans to stay in Cork for a few weeks before heading to the States, then returning to London to film his chat show.

“Cork is the best place, relaxed and chilled and lovely, and the weather has been alright,” said Norton, who has a home in Ahakista and hosted his star-studded wedding bash in West Cork last July after tying the knot with Scottish filmmaker Jonathan McLeod.

The star said he enjoys a potter around Bantry market, where the stallholders are old friends, thanks to his frequent visits home:

“What’s nice about being in Bantry is that they know who I am, but at this stage, I know who they are too,” he added.
