Take a look inside the largest cruise ship EVER to visit Cork

By Yay Cork May 3, 2018May 2, 2018

It’s a floating five-star hotel.

The largest cruise ship ever to visit Cork will arrive in the harbour town of Cobh this Sunday, May 6th.

Carrying 5700 guests and with a gross tonnage of 167,600 tonnes, the MSC Meraviglia exceeds the weight of Independence of the Seas by 13000 tonnes.

As you’d expect, the interior is pretty impressive as well.

Firstly, there’s the pool, glittering turquoise in the spring sunshine and surrounded by double sun beds and reclining chairs.

Thrill seekers will enjoy one of the most intricate and exciting water parks at sea, with three twisting slides, a ‘Himalayan Bridge’ and a range of pools, features and activities.

The jacuzzi tub hangs above sea level so you don’t miss out on any epic views as you relax.

The Flagship of MSC Cruises boasts 12 distinct dining venues, including Butcher’s Cut, an American-style steakhouse serving select prime cuts from around the world, and Kaito Teppanyaki Restaurant & Sushi Bar, an authentic Asian eatery.

No matter which one you choose, you’re guaranteed to secure a fabulous table.

MSC Meraviglia is packed with extraordinary features that guarantee guests the perfect experience at sea in every season.

The ship boasts a two-deck “inside promenade”. Another one of the highlights on board is the giant LED-Dome at the Piazza Meraviglia – this street is home to restaurants, bars, lounges and shops, all covered by a vast, ever changing digital canopy.

Luxe seating areas offer the perfect spot to enjoy the view while sipping Champagne.

Twice every night, six nights a week, guests on MSC Meraviglia have the unique opportunity to see two original shows by Cirque du Soleil as they enjoy dinner in the glamorous Carousel Lounge.

And all this in between planning day trips at various stops throughout Europe…

The ship is on an 11-day cruise to and from Hamburg, stopping in Cobh, Dublin, Scotland and Southampton.

It will primarily sail to the Norwegian Fjords throughout the summer, returning to Cobh at the end of August and then sailing the Mediterranean throughout the autumn.

*sigh*

Cobh will roll out the red carpet with a host of entertainment and markets set up in the park on the waterside on both Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
