FIRST LOOK: Inside Kerry’s newest 5-star hotel

Here’s a new one to put on your travel wish list.
The five-star Dunloe Hotel & Gardens, overlooking Killarney’s famous Gap of Dunloe, has reopened after undergoing a mammoth 18-month renovation – and it looks spectacular.
The luxury property is owned by the Liebherr family, who have invested a whopping €18m in the renovation of the restaurant, bar, reception, lobby and lounge spaces as well as the enhancement of the gardens and carpark.
And it was worth every cent…
Designed by Swiss company Monoplan, the new restaurant overlooks the iconic view of the Gap of Dunloe in spectacular fashion, with a room height of six metres and huge panoramic windows.
Just picture the epic dinner parties.
The cosy lobby, the library tower and the bar have been designed in darker tones to create an inviting atmosphere to sink into.
We can picture ourselves kicking back in here with a great coffee and a good book…
Outside, if you can tear yourself away for an afternoon stroll, the gardens surrounding the shell of MacThomas’ medieval keep stretch dramatically towards the mountains girdled by the Ring of Kerry.
Camellias, magnolias, roses and rhododendrons, handpicked by renowned plantsman Sir Roy Lancaster, now flourish in the sheltered grounds together with rare specimens such as the aromatic-leaved ‘Headache’ tree.
In the paddocks to the front of the hotel, descendants of Hafflinger ponies brought over by Dr Hans Liebherr a half century ago still graze in the lush paddocks.
We’re earmarking this one for a special night away but it would also make a brilliant over-the-top option for anyone seeking a more refined hen party location – a full range of therapies and beauty treatments are available in the Spa.
One night dining deals start at €175 pps here.
