Weekend weather set to be hazardous and miserable

We’re not out of the woods yet.
Met Éireann’s snow and ice warning for Cork (and the rest of the country, for that matter) is set to elapse at 11am this morning. Unfortunately, these unpleasant conditions are likely to continue into the weekend.
The latest regional forecast for Munster notes that hail, thunder and sleet are all on the cards tomorrow (Saturday, January 8th): “After a wet start rain will clear eastwards quickly on Saturday morning with sunny spells and showers following from the west, some of hail with isolated thunderstorms possible, while some may turning to sleet through the evening hours.”
Even later tonight, the heavy rain will re-emerge after a brief clearance later in the day, and localised flooding will become a problem once again.
Sunday is expected to be less hazardous, but still rather miserable, with Met Éireann forecasting: “Apart from a few wintry showers in the northwest at first it will be a mostly dry start to the day. However, rain will develop in the southwest and spread northeastwards to all areas through the afternoon and evening.”
Probably the only good news is that temperatures won’t drop as far as zero, even at night. The lowest temperatures will on Saturday night, with lows between 3 and 7 degrees. Otherwise temperatures will be relatively middling.
