Woman rescued from atop Blarney Castle after suffering a fall

“A difficult extraction.”
Several emergency services were mobilised yesterday to airlift a woman from the roof of Blarney Castle after she suffered a fall.
A dramatic photo shared by the Cork City Fire Brigade shows a Coast Guard helicopter hovering above the 15th century structure. The narrow and winding staircase of the medieval castle, as well as the building’s 90-foot height, made airlifting from the roof the safest possible option.
It has since been confirmed that the patient’s injuries are not life-threatening.
A tweet shared by Cork City Fire Brigade reads: “Ballyvolane crew now back at home station following a difficult and technical extraction of a patient from Blarney Castle. As always great interagency work with @AmbulanceNAS and @IrishCoastGuard to give the patient the best care possible.”
