Cork’s newest bookshop opens on St Patrick Street this weekend, here’s what to expect…

By Yay Cork November 12, 2021November 12, 2021

Brought to you by Dubray Books.

Listen up, bookworms.

Dubray, Ireland’s leading dedicated bookseller, will open the doors to its first Cork bookshop on Saturday, with a brand new 2500 sq ft store at No. 83-85 St Patrick’s Street (at the corner of Carey’s Lane).

The new shop, Dubray’s first-ever Leeside launch, will boast thousands of titles over two floors in a beautiful historic building overlooking Cork’s most famous thoroughfare.

The company, which started as a single shop in Bray, Co. Wicklow in 1973, is creating 25 new jobs between Cork and Dublin this weekend, with Dubray’s tenth store also launching in Dundrum Shopping Centre.

Dubray has long aspired to open in Cork and spent months searching for a busy city centre location that would be on a par with their flagship store in Grafton St.

The company says Cork’s thriving arts scene, the wealth of local writing talent and a strong publishing tradition made it an obvious choice for Dubray, a company that enjoys engaging with its community.

“We are delighted to be opening two new stores this Christmas, both in well-loved locations,” said Maria Dickenson, General Manager of Dubray.

“While the Covid period has been challenging for bookshops, there is a huge appetite for reading in Ireland which in many ways was strengthened by the lockdown. Our team are very excited to start recommending books to customers in both Cork and Dundrum Town Centre.”

What to expect

In case you’re unfamiliar, book recommendations are the speciality of Dubray and the Cork store will offer a Book Subscription Service as well as their Personal Book Shopper Experience, where you can spend time and choose books with one of the many knowledgeable book lovers who work with Dubray.

You can also look out for Dubray’s popular Staff Recommended Reads and the Dubray Children’s Favourites, which have been selected by a team of children’s booksellers – ideal for choosing the best new books for under the Christmas tree this year.

To find out more about upcoming events and the latest titles available in Dubray Books Cork, drop by the store at 83-85 St Patrick’s Street, Cork or visit dubraybooks.ie.
