Skeletal remains of six people found under Nancy Spains bar

More bones have been discovered beneath the old pub.
Following the discovery of human bones beneath Nancy Spains earlier this month, six more sets of human skeletal remains have been discovered.
The Barrack Street bar is being demolished and cleared to make way for social housing units, and an archaeological dig is currently underway on-site to make sure that discoveries such as this one don’t go overlooked before construction begins.
The excavation is now in its final week, and following its conclusion the discovered bones will be sent for analysis, which could reveal details such as sex, age, possible diseases and even the manner of death.
Cork City Council archaeologist Ciara Brett told RTÉ that she believes the bones are from the 18th century at the latest, though no “datable evidence” such as artefacts have been found alongside the bones to help place them in time.
Nancy Spain’s Bar closed in the early 2000s and is often-cited as the location of David Gray’s first Irish concert. So now it has two claims to fame.
