‘We are extremely disappointed,’ – Kinsale Gourmet Weekend forced to cancel 2021 event

It regularly attracts up to 5,000 foodies to the seaside town.
But Kinsale’s annual Gourmet Weekend has been cancelled for the second time in its 45-year history, as local restaurant owners battle through an industry-wide staff shortage.
“We as a group are devastated to share this news with you but we are committed to doing our part to help protect our staff, attendees and fellow Kinsale people.” said a spokesperson for the festival.
“As we are but a small group of restaurants in a relatively small town, the members’ main priority now is their own business, which as everyone knows are extremely hard to staff and proprietors and chefs are working long hours to keep the show on the road.
“To maintain such high standards that Kinsale food is known for. We are extremely disappointed that we are unable to hold this event.”

The good news is that fans of top-notch seafood may not have to wait 12 months for the next event, the organisers are exploring options to reschedule in early 2022.
The popular festival plays host to creators of excellent food from Jim Edwards, The Supper Club, Finns Farmcut, The White Lady, Man Friday, Actons Hotel, The White House, The Trident Hotel, The Bulman, Fishy Fishy and The Blue Haven, sponsors of fantastic wines, beers and spirits, food stalls of local producers, musicians and street entertainers.
If you had planned a visit on the October 15th-17th weekend, all 11 Good Food Circle restaurants, as well as the town’s cosy pubs, will be open but diners are advised to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
