September Scorcher: Everything you need to know about this week’s mini heatwave

We should be heating up the cocoa by now.
But in a pleasing turn up for the books, Cork is going to be basking in glorious September sunshine for the rest of the day today, with warm, if slightly soggy conditions in store for the rest of the week.
According to Met Éireann, a warm airmass originating in North Africa has moved up across Ireland, meaning it will be “dry, humid and very warm today with top temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees” the highest of which will be enjoyed away from southern coastlines.
Whatever happens, we’ll be hitting the nearest beach for one last sunshine dip after work.
Mist & fog will continue to burn off this morning, with widespread sunshine developing, however, pockets of fog may linger along the coast⚠️🚗☀️

Tonight will be cloudy with some heavy showers possible, becoming more widespread through the night. Overall however it’ll be a “very mild and humid night with temperatures not falling below 13 to 17 degrees, in light easterly or variable winds.”
Wednesday will be humid with mostly cloudy conditions and scattered showers across Cork but temperatures will remain warm at between 20 to 23 degrees throughout the day, leading into a “very mild and humid night” with temperatures remaining above 14 to 16 degrees.
Thursday will bring another day of widespread heavy showers, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms, heavy downpours the risk of spot flooding but all is not lost: there will be some occasional bright intervals also, with highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees.
