Wind warning issued for Cork as gusts reach up to 90km/h

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for Cork.
The warning, which comes into effect at 9am this morning (Thursday, August 12th), will be valid until 1pm later today.
Met Éireann have forecasted: “unseasonably windy on Thursday. South to southeast winds veering southwest will reach mean speeds of 40 to 50 km/h with gusts of up to 90 km/h.
“Winds will be strongest along the coast, as well as exposed and higher terrain. Rough seas are expected too.” A near-identical warning has been issued for Kerry, but this is expected to elapse at 11am.
While the weather warning for Cork ends at 1pm, the general forecast is for strong winds to continue. Tomorrow, we can expect the day to be “blustery again with fresh west to southwest winds, easing later. There will be sunny spells and a few scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees.”
The winds are expected to ease off by the weekend proper but we won’t be out of the woods yet, with heavy showers and potential spot-flooding forecasted and expected to be worst in the southwest.
