Dry and sunny weekend in store (but temperatures will plummet to freezing on Easter Monday)

Make the most of that glorious spring sunshine.
Mother Nature is giving us ample opportunity to work off all those Easter egg calories this weekend, but Met Éireann is forecasting a big change in the weather by Easter Monday.
According to forecasters, Saturday will be dry with good sunny spells and highest temperatures of between 11 to 13 degrees. Saturday night will be dry and clear with some patches of mist and fog and lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.
After a settled start to the bank holiday weekend and a mild day (9C-12C) on Sunday, the weather will turn unsettled and much colder from Easter Sunday night onwards, with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees and frost in places.

Met Éireann meteorologist, Matthew Martin, said: “Easter Sunday will start dry with sunshine for most and whilst southern areas will continue to enjoy a dry and bright day, a cold front will introduce cloud and rain across the northern half of the country through the afternoon – it’s this cold front that opens the gates to very cold air from the Arctic from Easter Sunday night and through much of next week.”
The cold airmass will introduce the chance of wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow on Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday, with temperatures limited to around 3 to 7 Celsius.
Temperatures overnight will widely fall close to freezing with a touch of frost in places, so take care to cover your plant pots and protect them from frost damage.
