Met Éireann is forecasting a week of rain and hail (but Christmas Day is looking good)

It’ll be a wet week for last-minute shopping.
But Met Éireann has tentatively forecast a dry and frosty Christmas Eve, with some sunny spells on Christmas Day.
In the meantime, it will be cool and blustery today with sunny spells and widespread showers.
“Some of the showers will be heavy with a risk of hail. Highs of 7 to 9 degrees in fresh, locally strong and gusty, southwest winds.” said a forecaster.
Tomorrow, Sunday will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will die out by evening, with predicted afternoon highs of 6 to 9 degrees.

It will turn much colder across the country during the week, as temperatures drop to between -1 to +2 degrees with frost and a risk of icy patches.
There’s some uncertainty on Tuesday and Wednesday as forecasters study a low-pressure system, which is expected to track up towards Ireland from the southwest during Tuesday, but the end of the week is looking good:
Thursday (Christmas Eve):
Met Éireann reports: “Christmas Eve is looking cold with sunny spells and a good deal of dry weather, but a few showers also. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with light to moderate northwest breezes. Mainly dry conditions look likely to prevail on Christmas Eve night with clear spells. Lows of -1 to + 3 degrees with frost and a risk of icy patches.
Friday (Christmas Day):
“At the moment, Christmas Day is shaping up to be a mainly dry day with some bright or sunny intervals. There is, however, the chance of some rain developing in the northwest later in the day.”
