Now you can get free-range eggs, organic meat and veggies delivered to your city doorstep

By Katie Mythen-Lynch December 7, 2020December 7, 2020

No need to queue at the supermarket.

A brand new business will now deliver a box of farm-fresh free-range eggs, organic meat and locally grown vegetables directly to your doorstep.

West Cork couple Michael and Carmen O’Sullivan hatched the idea for their website Farmsy.ie when they spotted a gap in the market.

Beginning in 2018 with a smallholding of just three hens and a cockerel (that’s Henrietta, Mrs Brown, Mags and Willy) the couple sold eggs from an honesty box near their home between Bandon and Timoleague.

Demand increased and more hens and ducks were added to the family and over time Michael built up an egg run, delivering eggs door-to-door.

During the first lockdown in March, customers began to ask about other products. The couple began seeking out local and chemical-free produce to supply and deliver alongside their much-loved eggs and Farmsy was born.

Now city dwellers can visit the online shop and fill their box with everything they need for the week, from organic potatoes, squash and stir-fry greens to organic lamb mince, stewing beef and even a Christmas turkey.

“When we started selling eggs from an honesty box we couldn’t have imagined where it would take us but the joy of delivering fresh, chemical-free, honest produce to peoples doors is just brilliant,” Michael told Yay Cork.

“I love getting to know the families and over time you get to know what they like so I can introduce them to suppliers that I know their family would enjoy. This year has taught us that the power of human interaction can change someone’s day so I always do my best to deliver a good chat with the produce – that’s what life is really about.”

The Beef Box (€46) contains a range of certified organic steaks, mince and roasts from pedigree Irish Moil, a traditional beef breed native to Ireland. You can also purchase gift vouchers that will allow your lucky giftee to try out delivery in the New Year.

All the produce comes from the best local farms, including Food For Humans and Horizon Farm, Ancient Organics in Rosscarbery, Duhallow Organic Meat and West Cork Coffee in Innishannon.

How do I order?

Orders are processed from Monday (6pm) to Wednesday (8am) via Farmsy.ie so fill your box and check out during that time. Deliveries are made every Friday and Saturday covering the city centre and commuter towns.
