It’s a brilliant way to see the city.
A brand new orienteering map will take walkers on a fascinating tour of one of Cork’s most historic neighbourhoods, stopping along the way to learn all about the curious sights you’ll pass on the way.
The Shandon Heritage Orienteering Course will be officially launched this week, but it’s available to try right now and the whole thing is completely free of charge.

Participants use clues and a map with the locations of the checkpoints circled to navigate from one checkpoint to another. You can navigate your way through streets, alleys and parks to find the five orienteering checkpoints that make up the course.
From a 300-year-old house on Blarney Street (the longest street in Cork) to Skiddy’s Almshouse, built in 1719 and the real story behind where Pope’s Quay got its name, there’s loads to see and learn, whether you’re a local or a visitor on Leeside.

Every checkpoint is permanently marked by a unique tile, each one designed by a local artist, and the course takes about an hour to complete, running around 5km in length, so it’s a great way to get some exercise too.
Ready to hit the road? Download your map here, then head for the first checkpoint on North Mall and have a look along the street for
a ceramic tile to get you started.
