7 epic take-out dinners, lunches and snacks to spoil yourself with this weekend

By Katie Mythen-Lynch November 5, 2020November 5, 2020

Plotting your weekend eats?

If you’ve usually exhausted your repertoire of recipes by Friday, the good news is that some of Cork’s best chefs have been busy preparing some majorly tempting menus to add some pizzazz to your meals.

Whether you’re craving a slice of fresh pizza to scoff al fresco or looking for a special supper to serve on a candlelit dining table at home, we’ve got you covered.

Here are seven tasty options to tempt you away from the oven:

1. Saturday pizzas at the Coal Quay Food Market

If you live within 5km of the city, Stuart Bowes will be firing up his ‘Curly Stu’ oven and serving fresh, hot Neapolitan sourdough pizzas at the Coal Quay Food Market on Saturday.

If you don’t make it this weekend, not to worry; he’ll be back weekly every Saturday from November 7th.

2. Burgers for two from The Spitjack

Over on Washington Street, you can choose and two burgers and two sides for a bargain €22 from The Spitjack. If you’re up and about a bit earlier, their weekend brunch is available for take away and delivery from 11am.

Order online here and drop by the takeaway window to collect.

3. A Friday feast from The Crawford Gallery Café

The Crawford Gallery Café is serving up a Three-Course Dinner for One for €19. This week’s starter is roast Crown Prince pumpkin, Horizon leaves, pistachio chilli salsa and buffalo mozzarella, with East Ferry Free Range tarragon chicken with pilaf rice and green salad for mains.

You get dessert too; homemade carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Order online here to collect on Friday, Saturday or Sunday between 11am – 3pm.

4. A Deliveroo Dinner (and cocktails) from Cask

Ireland’s best cocktail bar is jumping on the Deliveroo bandwagon, with a tasty menu of tapas and heftier meals available for door drops. The pies are made for cosy evenings at home; there’s a fish pie and a Beef and Beamish among the choices.

Their marvellous SOMA-Espresso Martini is available in three different sizes for takeout too, along with Hot Dan Duggans and creamy pints of Beamish, which you can enjoy if you call in your order and drop in to collect it. See the menus here.

5. A Weekend Supper from The Farmgate

Dropping by the English Market for groceries? Why not collect a three-course treat for two while you’re at it; the Farmgate Weekend Supper (€45, serves two) includes a starter of Kathleen Noonan Ham Hock and Bandon Vale Cheddar Croquettes with fennel and apple chutney, a main course of slow-braised lamb shank, butterbean cassoulet, salsa verde and champ and a flourless chocolate cake with praline, orange and mascarpone to finish the meal.

Available to collect from Tuesday – Saturday from 12pm to 4.30pm with last orders the day before. See the full menu here.

6. Grab a ‘Caramelly’ from Cameron Bakery

Our advice is to get there early. Like most of Cameron’s best bakes, their new Caramelly (a rich bar with layers of crunchy hazelnut praline, caramel and chocolate cream, wrapped in dark chocolate and hazelnuts) is guaranteed to disappear fast.

We think it’s the perfect treat with a coffee after a moring stroll in Fitzgerald’s Park. They open at 7am.

7. Pick up a curry pot from 51 Cornmarket

Feeling the chill? Warm up with a mouthwatering takeaway curry pot from 51 Cornmarket on Cornmarket Street. You can choose a beef or chickpea option, both topped with yoghurt, pickled onion, pomegranate, fresh coriander and spiced pumpkin seeds.

Their house sausage rolls (served with ‘Poor Man’s Relish’) are epic too so nab one of those and some baked goodies to take home. Check out the latest specials and opening hours here.
