It was scheduled to reopen at Easter.

However, a series of ‘contractual complexities’ have caused the newly restored Shaky Bridge to remain closed to the public for now and it looks like the popular landmark won’t be open again until December.

After a query about the structure, also known as Daly’s Bridge, was raised by Independent councillor Kieran McCarthy, Cork City Council’s Director of Infrastructure Development, Gerry O’Beirne said critical elements of the planned works have ‘yet to be completed’ with work scheduled to be carried out over the coming two months.

These elements are understood include electrical and lighting works, railing installation, painting, landscaping and the completion of an access ramp.

Mr O’Beirne confirmed that the bridge will reopen for public use in December.

The €1.7m restoration project addressed extensive corrosion and damage to the 50.9 metre heritage structure, which is the only one of its kind in Ireland. The project has been underway since August 2019.
