The Shaky Bridge will reopen this weekend after 17 months of restoration works

It was due to be completed last Easter.
But Cork’s iconic Daly’s Bridge (Shaky Bridge) will finally reopen this weekend after a series of delays stretched the restoration of the structure to 17 months.
The bridge, which is an important route from Sunday’s Well to the City Centre, underwent a major repair and restoration to address “extensive corrosion and damage” to the heritage structure.
Now Independent Cork City Cllr Kieran McCarthy, who had pressed for its reopening, has revealed that the bridge will be officially opened with a low-key ceremony on Thursday, December 17th before opening to the public on Saturday, December 19th.

Daly’s Bridge, which opened in 1927, is unique in Ireland as the only surviving pedestrian suspension bridge of its type and age.
Key steel elements of the bridge were taken down for repair and repainting, including the latticed deck and the original iron railings on the southern ferry boat quay.
