It Takes A Village: Here’s everything you need to know for your festival weekend

By Yay Cork April 25, 2019April 25, 2019

Brought to you by It Takes A Village.

We’re counting down the days.

The second installment of It Takes A Village is just around the corner and excitement is building ahead of the trip to Trabolgan 2019.

One of Ireland’s most chilled out festivals (there’s no tents so festival goers become village residents, staying in comfy houses for the duration), the three-day party gets underway on May 10th.

Ready to head east for the first big bash of summer? Here’s everything you need to know:

How do I get there?

Trabolgan is located after the village of White Gate, East Cork*. From Cork, take the N25 towards Waterford and once you hit the roundabout passed Midleton take the second exit for Whitegate / Ballycotton. Continue straight for 16km through Whitegate village.

*Google map here.

Any last-minute tickets?

A limited number of tickets are still available here. It Takes A Village is a residents only affair so there are no weekend tickets without accommodation. Sunday Day tickets are available, with a bus leaving from the Patrick’s Quay Air Coach stop in the City Centre if you fancy popping down for the day (€8 each way).

If you can’t make the festival, there’s a one-day Boat Party happening too – book a €25 ticket for that one here.

How do I check in?

The no-camping festival offers 150 self-catering houses and apartments, plus 35 fully-serviced campervan sites. Drop by the security check-in desk to collect the keys to your cosy village home and enjoy a clean bed, warm showers, and private bathrooms, for the weekend.

You can park right outside your door.

What should I pack?

Trabolgan provides bed sheets, blankets, pillows and all household and kitchen items but not towels. You can bring food and drinks to enjoy in your accommodation but no food or drinks are permitted within the main festival area. Most importantly; don’t forget your togs for the pool party!

What’s the food situation like on-site?

In a word: dreamy. Fuel up on the best pizza this side of Napoli from Volcano Wood-Fired Pizzas, yummy vegan goodness from My Goodness, traditional South African barbecue from Barracuda BBQ, Asian delights from Wokabout, and caffeine hits from Red Strand Coffee.

Where can I find the full line-up?

The final round of acts have now been announced, featuring more of the finest live performers in the country and beyond. Electronic guru James Holden and The Animal Spirits, DJ legend Donal Dineen, Irish punk poet Jinx Lennon, noise-pop sextet Thumper, post punk band Extravision, MC’s TPM, hardcore metal heads Horse, multi-instrumentalist and composer Dowry and songwriter Anna-Mieke are just a few of the acts we’ll be checking out.

In between performances, check out the pool (there’s a wave machine and a slide) the birds of prey, the arcade and the 120-acre seaside site – more details on those can be found here.
