They’re having a bit of a refurb at Castlehyde.
Now Riverdance star Michael Flatley is auctioning off a selection of unique items that no longer have a place in his €20m, 18th century River Blackwater home… and there’s plenty of intriguing and affordable finds in the mix.
While handsome Chesterfield sofas, walnut furniture and Venetian mirrors are going for bigger bucks, there’s plenty of scope for a little Christmas shopping in the catalogue.
Of course, the bidding might quickly put you out of the race on the day, but there’s no harm in having a go and crossing your fingers if you’ve got your eye on something specific.
Here are seven items with starting bids under €100:
MEERSCHAUM PIPE
Estimate: €40/€60
Shopping for a pipe smoker this Christmas? This fancy pipe boasts a tortoiseshell stem and paterae carved bowl and it comes in its original case.
IRISH MASONIC SWORD
Estimate: €30/€40
Crafted by Woods of Dublin, Lot 578 is an 85cm Irish Masonic Sword that comes complete with its own scabbard.
TEAPOT COLLECTION
Estimate: €50/€80
Why buy one quirky teapot when you could buy five? These could be split up for gifting but the full set would look lovely displayed in a cabinet.
BAMBOO UMBRELLA
Estimate: €50/€80
This charming umbrella is part of the antique collection at Castlehyde House. Its beautiful painted design is sure to delight a fan of romantic vintage decor.
FAUX MARBLE NAPOLEON
Estimate: €50/€80
At 24cm tall, raised on a circular plinth, this diminutive bust would make the perfect secret Santa for an acquaintance with a certain complex.
19TH-CENTURY GENTLEMAN’S TRAVELLING CASE
Estimate: €100/€150
At the pricier end of the scale. this smart travelling vanity case harks back to a time when a footman would be available to schlep it about. It is beautiful though, with a gilded silver fitted interior.
19TH-CENTURY SILVER VANITY SET
Estimate: €60/€80
This beautiful set includes two hairbrushes, a mirror and two clothes brushes. The bristles might be past their prime (and in need of a clean by the looks of things) but they’d look stunning on a dressing table.
The Sheppard’s auction will take place over November 26th and 27th and you can check out the full catalogue here.
