Brought to you by Cork City Shopping.

The lights are twinkling, the wine is mulling…

Now is the time to deck the halls with candles, wreaths and novelty goodies while enjoying a little down time in the city.

Cork City Council and the Cork Business Association have introduced free parking when you enter after 5pm in Paul Street and North Main Street car parks every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until January 12th.

That means you can drop shopping bags stuffed with home decor back to the car before you head off to dinner or a show; no more hauling your haul around after the shops have closed!

Ready to take advantage? Here are six fabulous buys for the Christmas-obsessed.

1. Naughty but nice

The sofa is the most important gathering place on Christmas Day. Make sure yours is decked out for the season with these fun cushions from Homesense on the Grand Parade. The best bit? If you keep them carefully they’re an excellent investment; you can enjoy them again, year after year.

2. Gorgeous garlands

It’s simple to make a garland using off-cuts from the Christmas tree and greenery from the garden, but if you’re after a real showstopper this year (or you don’t have the patience for DIY), check out Home Square in the Cornmarket Centre (below TK Maxx). Their stunning garlands will make a showpiece out of your fireplace in minutes.

3. Something new for the loo

If you don’t have a Christmas bathmat, can you truly call yourself a Christmas fanatic? Nab this Reindeer version in the home department upstairs at Marks & Spencer.

4. Christmas pudding… for your face

When you’re finished decorating the house, you’ll need a little something to make your skin glow too. Trust Lush to come up with a Christmas cleanser that looks so delicious you could eat it (no recommended). Their Bûche de Noël face and body cleanser is loaded with brightening mandarins, vitamin-packed cranberries and even a drop of toning brandy. Yule love the effects…

5. Christmas crockery

Not content with dressing the table for Christmas dinner? Dress the plates too with these beautiful holly patterned dinner and side plates from Homesense on The Grand Parade.

6. The scent of Christmas

Nothing says ‘Christmas!’ like the heady scent of cinnamon, mulled wine and red apples when you walk through the door. Candle Mania on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork City stocks the entire range of festive Yankee Candles – we know because we spent 30 minutes smelling each one.

Cork City Council and Cork Business Association have launched FREE late night parking in Paul Street carpark (when you enter after 5pm-midnight) and in North Main Street carpark ( 5pm-9.30pm) from now until January 12th every Thursday-Saturday evening!

There will also be an extended Park and Ride and a late night bus service. For more information, visit the website
