The most romantic week of the year! Can you feel the Valentine’s magic? Are you swept away by the heady scent of amour and Aldi roses in the air?
Whether you’re a love junkie, a Valentine’s singleton out there searching for a soul mate or a Galentine’s gal planning a girls-only get together, we’ve got fun times for all your ‘tines requirements.
Right this way, lovebirds…
1. Try speed dating with a twist
Hoping to find a significant other who’s as terrible as you are? Get yourself over to the Franciscan Well on Thursday, February 13th for Cards Against Humanity Speed Dating.
On the night groups will be split into eight to play a few rounds of the dastardly game, chat, drink and get to know each other. Each group will have 10 minutes per table before moving on to the next to start a new round! The ticket price (€10.85 here) even includes a drink on arrival to calm the nerves!
2. Get crafty with your gifting
On Thursday, February 13th at 7pm, Crawford & Co is hosting ‘Tees, Totes and a Tipple’ – an evening of crafty fun for wannabe fashion designers where everyone leaves with a unique handmade tote bag or tee.
After a brief demo, participants will transfer their chosen image (bring along a t-shirt, vest or bag and a black and white picture smaller than A4 size) onto a silkscreen frame and print the image onto their chosen item.
You might end up with something special to give to your main squeeze on Valentine’s Day. In any case, it’s the thought that counts so let your creative juices run wild. Tickets are €25 here.
3. Take the Lovers Trail in a Victorian garden
Up at the Montenotte Hotel, you can order a limited-edition Valentine’s ‘Love Potion’ cocktail before following cupid’s arrow through a romantic new Lovers Trail in the hotel’s Victorian Gardens.
A love seat and heart-shaped floral arch await couples at the end… plus it’s an Insta-worthy spot for a first kiss (or a surprise proposal). If you’re staying in the hotel, show your romantic Instagram post at the bar and receive a complimentary hot whiskey to warm you up.
4. Make it a black-tie affair to remember
Looking for an excuse to get all dolled up? The 30th annual Valentine’s Ball in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research takes place on Saturday, February 15th, 2020 in the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Cork.
The black-tie gala event, which is sponsored by Johnson & Perrott Motor Group, aims to raise over €40,000 to fund research into new cancer treatments.
Your Valentine’s date night could help save lives. Plus there’s a Dingle Gin and Heineken reception, amazing goodie bags and prizes, a sumptuous four-course meal and dancing ’til late with Spring Break.
Tickets are €150 here.
5. Make a carnivore fall in love with you…
New kids on the block The Glass Curtain have planned some carnivorous fun for meat-eaters this Valentine’s Day. The menu for their Bloody Valentine’s Nose to Tail dinner will set foodies’ hearts aflutter, with beef heart, pork skin and bone marrow among the ingredients.
“We believe that to show the proper love and respect to any animal you are going to eat, nothing should go to waste.” they say. “When shown some care, some of the lesser-used cuts are the most delicious.”
