5 especially fabulous new sandwiches to eat in Cork this spring

We love an ‘ole sandwich around here.
And while we rarely meet a sanger we don’t like, this week is turning out to be quite exciting indeed if you’re after something new for your lunchtime munch.
From savoury croissants to elevated avocado toast, there’s never been more reasons to accidentally forget your Tupperware pot of leftover pasta en route to work.
Here are five new sandwiches to try next:
1. FRENCH FANCY IN THE CITY
Where: Masseytown, Paul Street/French Church Street
They’re known for their killer sandwiches made with free-range rotisserie meats, but now the creative crew at Masseytown are luring us in with a new lush lunch; their filled croissants are stuffed with Collea Cheese and Tom Durcan’s finest ham.
Oooh, lala.

2. THE ONE WITH THE STUFFING ON MAC CURTAIN STREET
If you haven’t yet crossed the bridge to try out the delish menu at Five Points Cafe in Cork’s thriving Victorian Quarter, now you have a new excuse.
Their Chicken & Stuffing sandwich is a feast of shredded chicken, pesto mayo, rocket, and house stuffing on toasted ciabatta. You’ll want to be alone with it.

3. ELEVATED AVO ON TOAST
Where: Carewswood Garden Centre & Cafe, Castlemartyr
It’s a failsafe combo, avocado and toast. But out at Carewswood Garden Centre & Café in Castlemartyr, they’ve elevated this lunchtime staple to sexy new heights.
Take a seat in their bright and buzzy dining room and order the avocado and toast with jalapeño and vine tomato salsa. It’s like a holiday in your mouth.

4. MEDITERRANEAN VIBES ON UNION QUAY
Where: Union Grind, Union Quay
Okay, so it’s not quite the Med, but an alfresco seat beside the river on Union Quay on a sunny day is just as good for a midweek escape from the office.
For extra holiday vibes, order yourself one of Union Grind’s new ciabattas; marinated grilled chicken breast, mild chorizo, sun-dried tomato pesto, roasted peppers and spinach.

Where: Cork Coffee Roasters, Anglesea Street
You can now pick up a delicious fresh roll with your mocha or americano at Cork Coffee Roasters on Anglesea Street.
Drop in for a brew and choose from classic Honey Mustard Ham and cheddar cheese on sourdough, Italian Chicken and pesto or the Veg Ledge – a hearty sandwich stuffed with organic beetroot, goat’s cheese, caramelised red onion jam, romesco and dukkah.
