5 Cork spots where you’ll find a very good gluten-free Christmas dessert

Being a wheat-free babe can be lonely sometimes.
As your friends and family pick from the plethora of main courses, starters and desserts and order dishes willy-nilly without a care in the world, you’re left with calculating ingredients and doing gluten-girl-maths until you’re whittled down to the “take it or leave it” option.
But this Christmas we refuse to be maligned and watch as our families indulge in all our favourite festive flavours while we tuck into some sad fruit cocktail. This year, we are coming fully prepared for the family dinner and bringing our own dessert, made from scratch by the experts.
Here are the best spots in Cork to find some gluten-free goodies:
1. My Goodness
The English Market food vendors are always a great shout for GF desserts and this year have put together truffle boxes and cheeze boards.
The truffle colours are made from natural ingredients like turmeric, spirulina, chlorella, beets, and raw cacao and the cultured cashew cheezes are made using sauerkraut cultures which include kimcheeze, smokey sundried tomato cheeze, and a Wensleydale style dessert cheeze.

2. The Menu Cakery
If you’re on the west side of the city you might consider a quick trip to Ballyhooleen in Halfway where you can grab some of these brand-new chocolate peanut butter and raspberry bliss bars from The Menu Cakery, both naturally gluten-friendly and vegan.
There are lots of gluten-free festive options to discover at this colourful cakery.

5. The Alternative Bread Company
There isn’t a day goes by that we don’t think about every single loaf at the ABC stall in the English Market. We are just obsessed with their range and they always have a nice selection of gluten-free breads to choose from as well.
This week we’re heading straight for the GF mince pies. Stock up and pop some in the freezer to reheat later.
