5 Cork cafés where eating chocolate for breakfast is actively encouraged

The heart wants what it wants.
And if you woke up this morning with a hankering for a shot of chocolate to kick off the day, then there is more than one Cork eatery where this type of wanton behaviour is acceptable (actively encouraged, actually.)
Here are five places to get a fast fix:
1. Cameron Bakery
Leave it to the French to bring a little ooh la la to the first meal of the day. Cameron Bakery’s chocolate hazelnut rolls are freshly baked at dawn to ensure they are both fluffy and crisp for the first customers of the day.
You can pick one up at the new café in Blackrock Village, or in the city stores at Washington Street and Parnell Place.

2. WCC Brew Bar
Hitting West Cork this summer? Leave the Bran Flakes at home and treat yourself to a chocolatey brekkie at West Cork Coffee Bew Bar at the Grey Heron design shop in Bandon en route.
The café is stocked with fresh goodies from vegan and gluten-free bakery Wazzy Woo so nab a guilt-free Peanut Oatie Bar or a Salted Caramel Square while they’re going.

3. De Calf Cafe
If the sun is shining, consider it an invitation to start the day with an iced mocha. There’s a selection of tasty cold coffees on the go at De Calf over on Cornmarket Street.
You could always stay for a plate of American waffles too.

4. Joes & Bros
Remember when a huge bowl of sugary, chocolatey cereal was the only way to start the day? You can re-live your childhood at Joe’s & Bros on Gilabbey Street and Winthrop Arcade; order the Old Skool Cereal Bowl and any coffee from their menu for €6.

5. Yumm Cafe
I mean, it’s got bananas in it so technically you could call it breakfast. In any case, The Banoffee Pie at Kanturk’s fabled Yumm Cafe is guaranteed to put a smile on your face for the rest of the week.
They open Wednesday to Saturday at 9am.
