Need an idea for a Secret Santa gift?
Buying for a colleague (or your boss) can be tricky. Too risqué and you’ll be the talk of the office. Too boring and your giftee will be unimpressed – and they may remember in January.
Luckily for you, we’ve travelled the length and breadth of Cork City in search of the perfect gifts to shop before the Christmas party.
The best bit? They’re all under €15.
1. The office messer
There’s always one. Keep the practical joker in your office occupied with an old-fashioned joke selection, magic trick set or racing gliders from Pinocchio’s Toy Shop on Paul Street. These vintage-style sets start from as little as €9.95 and they are as much fun for nostalgic adults as they are for kids – trust us.
2. The organisational genius
What do you buy the most organised person in the office? A gorgeous diary to fill up with appointments for 2019, of course. Interestingly, this gift is also a winner for the least organised person you know. We found stacks of cool designs from brilliant stationery brands at Unbound on Bridge Street, Cork City – in fact, this one was reduced to just €5 so move fast to nab a total bargain.
3. The chocoholic
There’s always one colleague who volunteers to do the Friday chocolate run. This time, treat them to some of the best truffles and treats available on Leeside by filling a box with your choice at Cocoa in the Winthrop Arcade. A box of nine handmade artisan chocolates costs just €10 – if you’re feeling generous, add in some macarons to make up the rest.
4. The history buff
If your favourite local history fan is the real deal, they probably already own every book on Cork ever printed. What they won’t have is a 3D model of St Anne’s in Shandon. These adorable little buildings are made by West Cork company Tiny Ireland and you can find this one at €15 in the Crawford Art Gallery Shop.
5. The health fanatic
Have you been tasked with buying a gift for the most health-conscious person in the office? Put down the matcha powder and green tea and treat them to a box of organic, all-natural bath goodies from Rain Africa, located in the Winthrop Arcade just off Winthrop Street in Cork City. These bath bombs smell absolutely incredible and they start from just €3.75 each so you can pack in four and still come in on budget.
Cork City Council and Cork Business Association have launched FREE late night parking in Paul Street carpark (when you enter after 5pm-midnight) and in North Main Street carpark ( 5pm-9.30pm) from now until January 12th every Thursday-Saturday evening!
There will also be an extended Park and Ride and a late night bus service. For more information, visit the website.
