5 adventurous summer road trips to plan right now

By Yay Cork June 7, 2018June 20, 2018

Brought to you by Dan Seaman Motors.

When the sun shines, there’s nowhere on Earth quite like it.

Cork is home to some of the most scenic lookout points and vistas in the country… and with months of warm weather to come, now is the time to pack up the car and explore them.

In less than an hour’s drive from the city, you could be breathing in gulps of salty sea air or wandering through a mystical stone circle.

Here are five of the best Cork road trips to take this summer… and some of the most exciting new motors to get you there.

1. WALK: Mizen Head

The road to West Cork is winding, but festooned with hot pink fuchsia and bright orange crocosmias bobbing in the breeze on every roadside.

Head for Bantry first so you can park up and stroll the seaside shops, checking out the bustling weekly market on the town square if you arrive on Friday.

TIP: Drombeg Stone Circle – located 2.4 km east of Glandore – is one of the most visited megalithic sites in Ireland and well worth a small detour.

Head on towards Mizen Head (follow the signs for Crookhaven), Ireland’s most southwesterly point, to take in the awesome views over the Atlantic Ocean and walk across the iconic bridge to the Signal Station.

Keep your eyes peeled for seals near the rocks far below and don’t forget the camera.

Drive: The stylish, dynamic Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is roomy enough to hold all the family’s walking and wet weather gear, not to mention the tripod so you don’t miss those all-important group photos. With Touchpad Controller to operate audio functions like radio and iPod, you can keep everyone entertained while you’re on the road. Front fog lamps and Dusk Sensor headlamps are built for the changeable West Cork weather, while the panoramic sunroof ensures you don’t miss out on any precious sunshine during your journey.

Access low cost finance of only 1.9% APR with Dan Seaman Motors when you register before the end of July. Prices from €29,150. Eight-year warranty.

2. CYCLE: Bring the bikes and explore The Sheep’s Head Peninsula

Set your wake-up alarm early and load up the car with the family’s bicycles for an active adventure you’ll remember for years to come. The Sheep’s Head cycle route starts at Ballylickey and ends in Roaringwater Bay, near Ballydehob.

Once you’re parked, the full cycle route is 120km long, but you can enjoy as much of it as you like, depending on whether you’re up for an epic journey or some light exercise.

Well signposted, it travels down the northern side of Sheep’s Head Peninsula, where mind-blowing Atlantic views await, then returns to Durrus.

Drive: The Mitsubishi ASX Diesel: With 7” touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay, 18” alloys, rear-view camera, parking sensors, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, seven airbags and Hill Start Assist all as standard, the Mitsubishi ASX Diesel is a family car with room for everyone. Stow your bicycles securely in your bike rack and hit the road in search of adventure.

Get €2500 Scrappage at Dan Seaman Motors when you order your 182 Diesel Model. Prices from €26,000 with low road tax of €200. Eight-year warranty.

3. SURF: Catch a wave at Inchydoney

With oodles of space for wetsuits and boards, the Mitsubishi Outlander 4WD is the surfer’s best friend. Load in your gear and head for the magnificent Inchydoney beach for some of the best waves in Ireland.

There’s a surf school for beginners too, so everyone can join in the fun, no matter what your level of surf skill.

Drive: The seven-seater Mitsubishi Outlander 4WD boasts all of the standard specification from the Intense model, with additional features including full leather upholstery, front heated seats and an eight-way power adjust drivers seat.

Get €4000 Scrappage when you order your new 182 at Dan Seaman Motors before June 30th. Eight-year warranty.

4. CAMP: Explore Cape Clear and enjoy some festival fun

With your boat ship shape and your tent and supplies neatly stacked in the Mitsubishi L200, the world is your oyster in terms of weekend getaways. Head for Cape Clear island with the kids in August for the Storytelling Festival (August 31st – September 2nd) to enjoy a host of fun events. There’s plenty of top-rated camp sites with everything you need to set up a comfy base for the weekend.

Drive: The handsome Mitsubishi L200 Black Line Limited Edition is the ultimate ‘Sport Utility Truck’ – a reliable, tough vehicle with the bonus of maximum interior comfort. Choose from four driving modes to make off-road driving a pleasure. Available in three different base colours; Black Mica (X37), Titanium Grey (U17) and White Pearl (W54).

Order a genuine Mitsubishi Canopy with any new L200 and receive a free bedliner and towbar.

Ready for an adventure of your own? Dan Seaman Motors, Forge Hill, Kinsale Road is your Cork dealer for Mitsubishi, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Fiat Professional and Jeep.

Drop by this week to test drive the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (SUV), the L200 Black Line, ASX, and the Mitsubishi Outlander. Avail of the 182 Customer Offer across the Mitsubishi Range and get a free €200 Mitsubishi Master Card on all new registrations as well as an eight-year warranty.
