The August bank holiday is here already.
With an extra day off to play with, there’s no better excuse to indulge in one of our favourite pastimes: boozy brunch or ‘crunch’ (brunch + cocktails).
Round up a few friends, pick a spot and kick back and relax with a few daytime drinks and food alfresco – everything tastes better over Bloody Marys and mimosas.
Here are four top-notch spots to hit this weekend:
1. BRICK LANE
Where: South Main Street
The Brick Brunch Club is open from 11am-3pm Saturday and Sunday with loads of hearty favourites to choose from, from Belgian waffles to the Cuban-style Eggs Benedict with pulled pork, crispy potatoes and jalapenos on toasted brioche (outrageously tasty).
Once you’re sorted for soakage, order the Hendricks Gin Teapot; Hendricks Gin, Elderflower liqueur, homemade camomile tea syrup, lemon juice and sparkling water.
2. DWYER’S OF CORK
Where: Washington Street, Cork
Not only is Dwyer’s an excellent shout any weekend, but they’re also doing an August Bank Holiday Bottomless Prosecco Brunch this Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. There are two sittings: 12pm and 2:30pm and you can reserve a table at dwyersofcork.ie/reservations or call 021 427 4189 to put your name down.
If you can’t make brunch, swing by in your own time for a Cocco Bello – a summery blend of Havana 3 and Sailor Jerry’s Rum, homemade Falernum N•9, mango syrup, coconut, pineapple, bitter drops, and lime).
3. THE ANGLER’S
Where: Leemount, Carrigrohane
Whether it’s eggs Benny alfresco you’re after, a stack of fluffy pancakes or something fancier (their Confit Duck Leg and Black Pudding Hash is delicious), The Angler’s serves brunch in their rustic outdoor riverside seating area from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 11.30am.
Traditionalists can sip a house Bloody Mary with Absolut Vodka, tomato juice, black pepper, Tabasco sauce, and a celery stick, but if you’re celebrating, try the Massotina Mimosa; Treviso Brut Prosecco and orange juice for a little morning fizz.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome too. You can book a table here.
Where: 4 Victoria Road, Cork Docklands
Jonesing for a Mexican Breakfast Burrito? Goldberg’s are serving Sunday brunch from 10am until 3pm, with a host of hefty options on the go, including avocado eggs and craft beer-battered chicken goujons.
Vitamin C is important so make sure and wash it all down with a ‘Sex on the Docks’ – vodka, peach schnapps, Malibu, orange, and pineapple with a dash of grenadine.
