4 Cork Instagrammers that will make you re-think your backyard, garden or patio

By Katie Mythen-Lynch August 10, 2020August 10, 2020

You don’t even need to have green fingers.

If being confined to your house has you yearning for a little spot to sit out and soak up the sunshine, you need only thumb through Instagram for a wealth of local inspiration on how to create a photo-worthy garden or patio.

Often, it’s the little things that make a big difference when it comes to outdoor spaces; a well-placed fern in a shady corner, a rustic wreath on the back door.

Try a little update this weekend and who knows; soon you might be eyeing up the shed for a ‘summer shack’ makeover à la Peter Kelly.

Here are four Cork Instagram accounts to add to your feed today:

1. WHAT KATIE GREW

A celebration of the West Cork landscape and all the wonderful plants that thrive down there, What Katie Grew is a feed that’s packed with gorgeous greenery, woodland and gorse. Have a browse with your morning cuppa.

2. WHERE IDEAS BLOOM

Daisy Chain is a little shop that always catches our eye when we’re rambling around Kinsale. A look at the Pearse Street display is usually all you need to get inspired to pep up the patio with new pots and hanging baskets and there’s always something new to pop in a vase or hang on your front door.

3. A ROOM WITH A VIEW

With architectural salvage panelling, sash windows, handsome iron planters and loads of gorgeous reclaimed materials for the inside, this dreamy garden room is the work of Paul Walsh of McGonigle Walsh Antiques in Blackrock.

As autumn rolls in, we can picture ourselves curled up in here with a good book and a strong coffee.

4. HAND-PAINTED POTS

Are your terracotta plant pots looking a bit dull? Take some inspiration from Rebecca’s Pleasant Pots, a Cork-based company that specialises in hand-painted artworks that are guaranteed to make your outdoor areas bloom.

Rebecca’s new business started when she painted a Frida Kahlo pot to gift to her friend Lenore who blogs at Out in the Sticks with Six.

The idea was a hit and you can text 083 457 4452 for pricing and enquiries.
