3 fantastic new breakfast dishes you should get up early to try in Cork this week

It’s the most important meal of the day, you know.
And this week, some of Cork’s most creative chefs have started giving breakfast the attention it deserves.
From empanadas that would bring a tear of joy to a carnivore’s eye (cardiologists look away now) to one of the prettiest waffles we’ve ever set eyes on, going out for breakfast is the new brunch.
It’s also much easier to get a table.
Here are three new breakfast orders to try this week:
1. PINK MOON, WASHINGTON STREET
The order: The Breakfast Coco-Nutter
Late for work? This perfect on-the-go breakfast is a blend of banana, oats, nut butter, cacao, protein powder and coco mylk. It tastes naughty but it couldn’t be healthier so grab one of Mary’s homemade Wagon Wheels too.
Pink Moon opens Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm.

2. THE VILLAGE DELI, KERRYPIKE
The order: The Big Boy Breakfast Empanada
Your hangover called, it wants you to hit The Village Deli at Ravens Court Garden Centre for a breakfast involving an indecent number of meats.
The Big Boy Breakfast Empanada is chef Bryan Phelan’s take on the classic Chilean pastry; a feast of wagyu beef, Gubbeen chorizo, black pudding, smoked brisket, Three Men in a Trailer chipotle and garden herbs.
The Village Deli & Café is open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm.

3. 51 CORNMARKET, CORNMARKET STREET
The order: Duck & Waffle
Breakfast doesn’t get fancier than this. Nab a table on the terrace at 51 Cornmarket and treat yourself to the Duck & Waffle; confit duck leg served on a house buckwheat waffle with tomato and orange salsa, a poachie and hollandaise sauce.
They open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm. Walk-ins only.
