They’re one of the most awkward items to get rid of.

But Cork City Council is inviting householders to drop off their old and unwanted mattresses to be disposed of responsibly this week.

As part of the Anti Dumping initiative 2021 you can drop off your mattresses at Tramore Valley Car Park, Ballinlough for just €5 on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021.

If you’re in the market for a new mattress, it’s worth remembering that, for a nominal fee, many furniture and bedding stores offer to take away your old mattress for recycling when they drop off your new one – saving you the hassle of getting it out of the house.

At Harvey Norman, for instance, they recycle each part of your old mattress individually so that everything is correctly recycled. Each layer is stripped away to ensure there’s no mixing of materials.
