Yet another weather warning issued for Cork

Met Éireann issued a follow-up warning this morning.

Heavy rainfall is set to continue until at least midday today, according to the latest update from Met Éireann.

A status yellow weather warning had elapsed at 3am this morning (Thursday, October 28th) but has quickly been followed by another, which will remain in place until 12pm.

The latest warning, which will also impact Carlow, Kildare and Kilkenny, states: “Following recent heavy rain, there will be additional rainfall accumulations this morning, with flooding in places.”

Other parts of the south coast will be even worse affected, with a status orange warning in place for Wexford and Waterford.

Friday morning will see the rain ease off, though it’s expected to rear its ugly, wet head once again by tomorrow evening: “On Friday morning there will be a good deal of dry weather, with sunny spells and just isolated showers. However, frequent heavy showers will develop in the afternoon, merging into longer spells of rain as they track eastwards.”

Flooding has already forced certain roads to close.

#CorkFloods Cork City Council have been in touch to let us know that the R579 between Leemount Cross and Cloghroe will remain closed overnight due to flooding.

Cork City Council has asked motorists to be extra careful due to the hazardous conditions:

“Please take extra care on our roads today as heavy rainfall has lead to surface water & hazardous driving conditions.

  • Ensure to keep a safe distance from other road users
  • Turn on your dipped headlights to ensure maximum visibility
  • Don’t drive into flooded areas”
