Wet and windy in Cork as Met Éireann predicts a soggy weekend ahead

By Yay Cork December 5, 2025December 5, 2025

If you were hoping to ease into Friday gently, today has other ideas.

It’s a wet and windy start across Cork this morning, with heavy bursts of rain keeping things fairly miserable for the early commute. The good news? Conditions will slowly brighten from the southwest as the day goes on, with scattered showers and the odd sunny spell sneaking through this afternoon.

Southeasterly winds will stay strong and gusty—gales possible along southern coasts—before swinging southwesterly and easing a little once the main band of rain moves on.

Temperatures will hold at a mild-ish 10 to 12 degrees, so at least it’s not a cold one.

Tonight, expect plenty of cloud and a mix of showers, with some areas seeing more persistent rain for a time. There’ll be the occasional dry slot too if we’re lucky.

What about the weekend?

Saturday begins on the breezy side and fairly showery, especially through the morning and early afternoon. Northern parts of Munster could see the most persistent rain. Sunny spells will be limited early on, though southern areas may squeeze in a bright start before showers return.

By later in the afternoon, things should improve, with brighter spells becoming more widespread and showers turning more isolated. Expect highs of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds, at times strong and gusty, but easing late

Looking ahead…

It’s a classic mixed-bag setup as low pressure continues to dominate into next week—expect a regular rotation of wind, rain, and brighter breaks. Temperatures stay relatively mild with little frost risk.

  • Saturday night: Mostly dry for a time before rain and drizzle drift up from the southwest overnight. Lows of 5 to 9 degrees.
  • Sunday: A tricky one to pin down, but further rain looks likely. Brighter spells and showers move in from the west later. Highs of 8 to 12 degrees.
  • Sunday night: Clear spells mixed with heavy showers—some with hail or thunder. Lows of 3 to 7 degrees.
  • Monday: Sunshine and a scattering of showers early, then turning cloudier later with rain arriving in the southwest by evening. Highs of 8 to 12 degrees.
