Today, Monday, is starting off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the county. Conditions are expected to improve slowly from the southwest as the day goes on, bringing some drier weather and occasional sunshine this evening. However, temperatures will remain on the cool side, reaching just 5 to 9 degrees.
Any brief respite will be short lived. Tonight will begin dry with some clear spells, but wet and windy conditions will spread in from the southwest during the second half of the night. Temperatures will dip to between -2 and +2 degrees.
Unsettled for the week
Tuesday will bring another mixed and blustery day. Wet and windy conditions are expected in the morning during the weather alert, with rain heavy at times before clearing northwards. While there will be a clearance to drier conditions and sunny spells for a time, further showers or spells of rain are forecast to move in from the south during the afternoon. Daytime highs will again range from 5 to 9 degrees, with strong and gusty easterly winds gradually easing.
Looking further ahead, Met Éireann says the unsettled pattern will persist through the rest of the week.
Tuesday night will remain breezy with scattered showers and occasional longer spells of rain. On Wednesday, northern areas may see a mix of sunny spells and showers, but the south, including Cork, is expected to be cloudier with more persistent rain. Temperatures will range from 6 to 10 degrees, with fresh easterly winds, strongest along southern coasts.
Showers or longer spells of rain will continue into Wednesday night, followed by a showery Thursday with limited bright spells and highs of 6 to 9 degrees. While the details for Friday remain uncertain, current indications point to another breezy day with a mix of sunshine and showers or outbreaks of rain.
Met Éireann says low pressure looks set to remain in control beyond the working week, meaning Cork residents should be prepared for further wet and windy conditions, with only brief breaks in the rain.
