WEATHER: Cold and dry in Cork with a frosty start for the last day of 2025

Cork is set for a cold and dry end to 2025.
It’s a chilly but fairly calm spell of weather ahead as we head into the New Year, with high pressure staying close by and keeping things largely settled.
While most places will stay dry, it won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine, with plenty of cloud around and the odd patch of drizzle creeping in at times.
Tonight will turn cold and dry, with clear spells developing as winds stay light from the east or variable directions. Fog – and in some spots freezing fog – will form overnight, with temperatures dipping to between -3 and +1 degrees, so it’ll be a chilly one.
New Year’s Eve weather
New Year’s Eve will get off to a frosty start, with fog and freezing fog slow to clear during the morning. Once it does, sunny spells should develop and it’ll stay dry throughout the day. It won’t feel particularly warm though, with temperatures only reaching 2 to 6 degrees in light winds – definitely a wrap-up-warm day for seeing out 2025.
Cloud will thicken again on Wednesday night as outbreaks of rain and drizzle move in along Atlantic coasts, while other areas stay mostly dry. Temperatures will range from -2 to +3 degrees, with mostly light to moderate westerly winds, turning stronger at times along northern coasts.
New Year’s Day will start rather cloudy, with patchy rain and drizzle spreading south. It’ll be a touch milder than recent days, with highs of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate westerly winds.
Looking further ahead, Friday and next weekend are expected to turn colder again as we move into the first full week of January. High pressure nearby should keep many areas dry, but showers may push down from the north at times, bringing the risk of some wintry precipitation.
Current signals suggest temperatures could fall further, with very cold conditions becoming more likely as the week goes on.
